iconoscope (Ike)

Obsolete cathode ray-style television camera tube that made the first all-electronic transmission possible. It was invented by Vladimir K. Zworykin (1889-1982), a Russian-born American physicist and electrical engineer. See also Image Orthicon, Plumbicon, Vidicon, and Station.

ID signal

in
Identification signal; sound and visual signal placed on major international broadcasts to assist lineup. The visual signal carries the name of the source superimposed over the test card, while the sound identifies the source (International the original language) on a continuous loop.
