Prakash Jha

Prakash Jha has produced and directed eight feature films, over 25 documentaries, two television features and three television series. After establishing himself in the world of cinema, Jha went back to Bihar for five years to do social work. He has made critically acclaimed for films like Apaharan, GangaaJal, Mrityudand, Damul and Parinati which successfully explored socially relevant issues. Jha has also tried his hand at ainstream feature films like Dil Kya Kare, Rahul and Hip Hip Hurray

Jha’s trademark remains thought-provoking quality cinema. Damul  won the Golden Lotus, the highest National Award for Best Feature Film in 1985. Over the years he has won numerous popular awards, half a dozen national awards and several international awards. The latter include the Special Jury Award, Cinema Tout Ecran, Geneva and the Audience Award for Best international Feature at the Bangkok Film Festival for death sentence. Jha has come full circle with his second Golden Lotus for the Best Non-Feature Film in 2003 for Sonal and the National Award for the best Feature Film on other Social issues for Gangajaal in 2004.
