Famed as the men in white in Bollywood, Abbas-Mustan Burmawala is a name, which spells thrill and suspense in tinsel town. They are the experts of action-suspense movies, which have mostly rocked the box-office. They are the men behind the first ever success of Hindi Cinema's two of the most sensational actors Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar.
Starting their career as Gujarati film directors, Abbas Mustan had to tread a long path before they got their first Hindi film break. Interestingly, the Burmawalla brothers didn't have any inclination towards thriller movies but a rude experience set them sail on this line. Their first Hindi film Agnikaal was based on two real-life characters but the film failed miserably. It was then that the brother duo pledged to never dish out reality to the audiences but suspense. There began the journey of this awesome twosome who gave us some of the nerve wrecking suspense thrillers like Khiladi, Baazigar, Ajnabee etc.
Their magic touch to the adventure movies did suffer a setback after a few of their films like
Tarzaan: The Wonder Car,
Naqaab and
36 China Town failed in quick succession. But the director duo bounced back with two successive hits,
Aitraaz and recently released
Race. They also tried to venture in different territory with
Chori Chori Chupke Chupke which worked only due to sheer star power and the underworld controversy.
Today, direction has taken a back seat for the duo as they have turned full-fledged producers with their upcoming film Life Partner which is not a thriller but a romantic comedy. But knowing their brilliant knock in the suspense genre, their fans are surely waiting for another nerve chilling thriller from the duo soon.
